DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — The Daytona Beach Police Department said a woman was tragically killed in her home last week in what appeared to be a violent dog attack.

Police responded to the home at around 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, after the victim's boyfriend became worried after not being able to reach her. She wasn't answering the phone, and when he arrived at her home, he found her unresponsive on the floor.

He called the police, and upon arrival, officers found the victim, 38-year-old Monica Emerson, severely injured while four dogs ran freely around the home. The group was made up of one large, mixed-breed male and three of his offspring, police said.

The police department did not provide any more information about the breed of the dogs or whether they belonged to Emerson.
