AUXVASSE, Mo. - Deer hunters are being asked to consider sharing their harvest with those who are in need of protein-rich meals.

The annual Share the Harvest campaign is underway across Missouri.

Hunters can donate a portion of or their entire harvest to local food banks. The process is free and participating processing facilities will handle any testing for Chronic Waste Disease.

“We take the deer and we'll test it for chronic waste disease,” said Lewis Clark, owner of R and R Processing in Auxvasse. “(The Missouri Department of Conservation) will give us the results back and then that meat is donated to a food pantry… or a soup kitchen.”
