KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Hundreds of families are reuniting tonight after a major breakthrough in the long-running conflict between Israel and Hamas. Twenty Israeli hostages and nearly 2,000 Palestinian hostages and prisoners have been released as part of a newly signed ceasefire agreement.

The agreement, facilitated by international leaders including President Donald Trump, marks a temporary pause in the fighting that has lasted more than two years. The war has left thousands of Palestinians dead and more than a million displaced.

“It's a really, really heavy day, and also a very joyous one,” Judith Rosenberg, president of the Knoxville Jewish Alliance, said. “We are dancing with joy and we are also sobbing.”
