York 6th, Tabb 7th in state Class 3 golf tournament

York placed sixth and Tabb was seventh Monday among eight teams in the VHSL Class 3 golf tournament at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg.

York’s top four combined for a 67-over-par 347. Tabb was at 351, edging Culpeper by a stroke.

Western Albemarle took the trophy with a 12-over 292, beating Liberty Christian of Lynchburg by 25. Western Albemarle’s Kennedy MacCleery fired a 6-under 66 to win the medal by five strokes over Wilson Memorial’s Jackson Devereux.

York’s Christian Martin earned his way to a six-way tie for fourth, shooting 74. York’s Skylr Cross (81, tied for 20th), New Kent’s Bryce Hochman (82), New Kent’s Rylan Opett (83), Tabb’s Jack Houseknecht (83) and Tabb’s Cooper Guldin (84) were among the top 32.

Lakeland’s Cam Chaney (85) tied for 33rd among 60 golfers.
