BOSTON (WWLP) - Although Applegreen Electric has withdrawn from highway service plaza contract negotiations with the Bay State, controversy over the contract-awarding process continues.

Early this summer, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation kicked off the bidding process for a highway service plaza contract. This contract, which would include a 35-year lease of 18 highway services plazas, represents a major upfront cost to the Bay State, with the end goal of creating thousands of permanent local jobs and better service plaza experience for consumers.
