SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – It's been five years since protestors toppled the controversial obelisk in the Santa Fe Plaza during a protest on Indigenous Peoples’ Day. However, the future of the monument at the center of the popular tourist district is still up in the air.

It was Indigenous Peoples' Day in 2020, when protestors tore down the controversial "Soldiers Monument" in the middle of Santa Fe Plaza because it commemorated Civil War soldiers and once had a plaque referring to Indigenous people as "savages."
