SALINA, Kan. (KSNW) -- In a unanimous, 5-0 vote, the City of Salina will be spending an additional $750,000 on removing the log jam at Bill Burke Park. This brings the total cost to around $1.2 million, but state disaster funds could cover some of that price tag.

The original, agreed-upon contract with Diehl Enterprises would have set the city back around $450,000. The cost may be more than double, but so is the length of the jam itself after "unprecedented" rains in July and September.

The city estimates the cost on a cost-per-foot basis, so the length determines the price.

The difficulty of removing the debris is also increasing. Those heavy rains washed away much of a rock platform built for crews to stage their cleanup efforts and further embed the now-longer jam into the mud. The o
