Maricopa police responded to reports of shots fired near Pacana Park late this morning and later determined it was related to a self-inflicted injury at a nearby home, authorities said.

The person involved did not survive.

Maricopa police received several 911 calls around 11 a.m. reporting a single gunshot heard in the area of the park, a popular recreational area near Saddleback Elementary School, A+ Charter Schools and Sequoia Pathway Academy, according to department spokesperson Monica Williams.

Officers located the source of the gunshot in a house in the adjacent Glennwilde neighborhood, said Williams. No foul play is suspected.

Police said there was no threat to the public. While Sequoia Pathway was out for Columbus Day, classes at Saddleback and A+ were in session continued
