AUSTIN, Texas (KETK) -- The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) is asking Texans to install carbon monoxide detectors and to keep up with system maintenance ahead of winter time because the gas poses a deadly threat.
According to the TDLR, carbon monoxide is an odorless, tasteless and colorless gas that becomes deadly when inhaled in high concentrations. With cold winter weather coming in the next couple of months, heating systems will be used more frequently and the chances of a leak increase.
The TDLR recommends that residents hire professionals to either install carbon monoxide detectors or inspect existing systems to ensure that homes are venting the gas properly.
