After a r eport of an active shooter at Villanova University this year, SWAT teams and other law enforcement agencies from across Pennsylvania responded to the incident.

But the whole thing ended up being an instance of swatting, an increasingly common crime across the country.

"It was just really traumatic for a lot of us on campus," said Irene Sirleaf, who is a first-year student at Villanova.

She said she was in her dorm on Aug. 21 when she received the campus alert that caused her and her classmates to panic.

"I'm panicking, I'm hyperventilating, like, I don't know what's going on, I don't know where the shooter is at," Sirleaf said.
