PHILADELPHIA – When you’re playing hockey’s best, it’s a good idea to learn from your mistakes.
That was the case on Monday night when the Flyers, who had dropped their overall season opener at Florida by a 2-1 score last Thursday night, bounced back after surrendering a 2-0 lead and found a way to beat the Florida Panthers, 5-2, at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Sean Couturier’s second goal of the game with 4:10 left broke a 2-2 tie for the game winner. He finished off a shot in front. He finished with four points. Trevor Zegras had the primary assist on the play. Bobby Brink and Christian Dvorak added an empty-netters in the final few minutes.
The decision gave coach Rick Tocchet his first win with the Flyers and evened the team’s season record at 1-1-1.
