For better or worse, national parks have found themselves at the center of the government shutdown controversy. Edging into its third week, the government shutdown caused a funding lap in federal lands, including all National Park sites across the US.

Along with the government shutdown, there has been a parade of national parks stories, ranging from thievery in Redwood National Park in California to illegal parachuting off El Capitan in Yosemite National Par k.

With no end to the government shutdown in sight, more and more external groups are having to fill in the gaps left by the lack of funding. It's not uncommon for non-profits to support national parks, but they are having to do more than ever in the current circumstances.
