GRAND FORKS – Phoenix Elementary School Principal Kevin Ohnstad presented at the Grand Forks School Board meeting on Monday about academic achievement results, behavioral incidents and interventions, attendance numbers and causes for celebration at the school.

A main part of Ohnstad’s presentation focused on goals surrounding student literacy and math scores. In the 2023-2023 school year, 38% of students were proficient or advanced in English language arts and 30% of students were proficient or advanced in mathematics. By September 2028, Ohnstad hopes to have 50% of students proficient or advanced in English language arts and 49% of students proficient or advanced in math.
