CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The Safe House of Southeast Missouri is using October to bring more awareness about domestic violence.
The local organization is one of many across the nation observing Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October, educating the public about the matter, honoring survivors and more.
The Safe House’s interim director, Kim Dixon, said it does not discriminate.
“It impacts the lowest income. It impacts the person who might be the wealthiest person in the community. It affects everyone. And so it’s hard to say whether or not it impacts a certain demographic more than the other,” said Dixon. “Yes, I’m sure there’s some statistics on that, but it really doesn’t discriminate. It could affect your neighbor, and you would have no idea.”
