**Title: Canucks Fall to Blues 5-2 Despite Sherwood's Efforts**
Kiefer Sherwood showcased his determination on Monday night, but it was not enough to secure a victory for the Vancouver Canucks. The team faced off against the St. Louis Blues at Rogers Arena, ultimately losing 5-2. Sherwood scored both of the Canucks' goals, bringing the score to 2-1 and later 3-2, and he nearly achieved his second career hat trick. He also contributed significantly with five hits, four shots, and seven attempts, earning cheers from the home crowd.
Despite Sherwood's efforts, the Canucks struggled throughout the game. The team dropped to a record of 1-2-0. The game plan to break out the puck quickly fell apart as the Blues effectively clogged the neutral zone, leading to sloppy zone exits. Early in the game, Evander Kane mishandled passes from Quinn Hughes, resulting in icings that disrupted the Canucks' momentum.
The Blues capitalized on the Canucks' mistakes, particularly on their third goal. During a power play, Jimmy Snuggerud scored after Tyler Myers lost the puck behind the net. Marcus Pettersson was also caught out of position, leaving Drew O’Connor and goalie Kevin Lankinen unable to stop the play.
"We’ve got to be ready from puck drop," Sherwood said after the game. "It starts with executing with our passes. When we aren’t, we’re chasing and you have to work twice as hard to get the puck back. They’re a good rush team and we gave them too many looks."
The Canucks also struggled on the power play, failing to convert on all seven opportunities across three games. Head coach Adam Foote noted that while it is not a pressing issue, adjustments may be necessary.
"Obviously, not the result we wanted," Hughes said. "We definitely have to change some things up. They (Blues) were making more plays and we just weren’t matching them. We need more communication."
With a condensed schedule ahead, the Canucks will have limited practice time. They are set to practice on Tuesday, travel on Wednesday, and then play games in Dallas and Chicago later in the week.
In terms of player performance, Sherwood received high marks for his leadership and effort, while other players like Elias Pettersson and Tyler Myers faced criticism for their play. Pettersson had a turnover that led to a penalty, and Myers was involved in a sequence that allowed the Blues to extend their lead.
As the Canucks prepare for their upcoming games, they will need to address their communication and execution issues to improve their performance on the ice.
