Bipin Joshi, a 23-year-old Nepali student and the only Hindu among hostages held by Hamas, has been confirmed dead, more than two years after being kidnapped during the October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel. The grim announcement comes as a US-brokered Middle East ceasefire led to the release of 20 living hostages by Hamas, overshadowed by the revelation of Joshi's death.

Joshi had moved to Israel just days before the attack as part of the "Learn and Earn" agricultural program, working alongside 16 fellow Nepali students at Kibbutz Alumim near the Gaza border.
