Pune: A recent study led by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has found that women suffering from metabolic syndrome (MeS) are at a significantly increased risk of developing gynaecological cancers — including ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vaginal and vulvar cancers.
The research was published on Oct 10 in the Indian Journal of Medical Research (IJMR) and highlighted rising prevalence of MeS , especially among women, making it an urgent public health concern in India.
Metabolic Syndrome is a cluster of metabolic abnormalities such as obesity, high blood sugar (hyperglycaemia), hypertension, elevated triglycerides and low HDL cholesterol.
