The actor Keanu Reeves has paid tribute to Diane Keaton following her death in California on Saturday aged 79.

Speaking on the red carpet at a screening in New York of his latest film, Good Fortune, Reeves told E! News : “She was very nice to me. [A] generous, generous artist and a very special, unique person.”

The pair co-starred in Something’s Gotta Give, Nancy Meyers’ 2003 romcom about a playwright (played by Keaton) torn between a young doctor (Reeves) and an older lothario (Jack Nicholson) who has been dating her daughter (Amanda Peet).

Reeves added, “It was cool to be able to see her and Jack Nicholson together. Just with the history they shared and the fondness and love they had for each other. It’s really cool.”
