Stock Market Closing Bell: The Indian equity markets ended Tuesday’s session in the red, with benchmark indices giving up early gains to close lower for the second consecutive day.

The BSE Sensex fell 297 points, or 0.36 per cent, to settle at 82,029.98, while the Nifty 50 slipped 81.85 points, or 0.32 per cent, to 25,145.50.

Weak global cues and continued foreign fund outflows weighed on investor sentiment, keeping markets under pressure throughout the day.

Sectoral performance reflected the cautious mood, with PSU banks, metals, and consumer durables emerging as the biggest laggards.
