Sunday was National Farmers Day. Did you remember to thank a farmer? It’s not hard to find one in Yuma. Or someone who is closely associated with agriculture.

We owe them at least a thank-you for being able to eat lettuce and other leafy vegetables during the winter. Not just Yumans, not the entire nation should give them thanks.

According to the Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy, in 2019, there were more than 450 small, family-owned agricultural companies in the area.

But it’s not just the owners that we should be thanking. The SBA noted that most businesses employ less than 50 people and greatly rely on thousands of seasonal field workers that travel to Yuma from Mexico each year.
