ATLANTA — The race for Atlanta City Council president only has two contenders but tons of contention. With Doug Shipman not seeking re-election, his replacement will either be District 11 councilwoman Marci Collier Overstreet or community activist Rohit Malhotra .

The gloves came off in a contentious Atlanta Press Club debate between the two. Malhotra runs the Center for Civic Innovation , a nonprofit that Overstreet criticized for having budget overruns.

"You should probably keep your day job and figure out how to not have a crumbling business," Overstreet said during the debate.

Malhotra said the money going out of his nonprofit was going out to organizations in a balanced way, according to its own fiscal calendar. He said he believed the country was in a national crisis and
