Instagram is about to look a lot different for kids, the head of the social media platform tells TODAY in an exclusive interview.

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, announced the changes Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Instagram is releasing a revamped version of “Teen Accounts,” a program launched in 2024 that promised — in the words of the company — “Protections for Teens, Peace of Mind for Parents.”

The new Instagram Teen Accounts continue many of the same privacy features for teens (privatized accounts, blocked search terms for sensitive topics, restricted access to content and messaging abilities and a default setting with parental controls) but now with a system inspired by “ PG-13 ” movie rating guidelines.
