Students in Santa Maria High School's forensic science classes recently gained hands-on experience with equipment utilized to identify, document, collect and preserve physical evidence at a crime scene.

Through a presentation and participation in demonstrations, students learned several integral forensics concepts such as the urgency of collecting evidence and the correct procedure to process a crime scene.

Students were able to ask questions of presenters and also discussed the different career paths in the field of forensic science.

The SMHS Forensics Science teachers extended their thanks to the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office Forensics Unit for their visit and creating a memorable experience for students during National Forensics Week.
