BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) - A federal appeals court has allowed President Trump to place Oregon National Guard troops under federal control, but he still may not deploy them, for now. The Ninth Circuit said the move preserves the “status quo in which National Guard members have been federalized but not deployed,” while U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut previously ruled Trump’s reasoning was “simply untethered to the facts.”

State and city officials argued the federalization effort was part of a “nationwide campaign to assimilate the military into civilian law enforcement,” and said it infringed on Oregon’s sovereignty and relied on “inaccurate information.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom responded on X:
