WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is set to give the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the U.S., posthumously to Charlie Kirk on what would have been his 32nd birthday.
Trump, fresh off a victory lap trip to the middle east after helping broker a ceasefire in Gaza, is scheduled to present the medal at 4 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
The Medal of Freedom, established in 1963, is awarded to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, or cultural or other significant public endeavors.
Kirk was fatally shot on Sept. 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University. Trump was the first to confirm Kirk had died with a post on social media a little more than two hours later
