HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Former Quinnipiac rugby star Ilona Maher was honored by Mattel with a Barbie doll as part of International Day of the Girl.

"Team Barbie" features four role models and professional rugby players from around the world to encourage confidence in girls, Mattel said.

Ilona Maher was among the four powerful women. She is an Olympic medalist and social media star who "embraces strength and femininity," according to Mattel.

Maher's inspired Barbie will have a new body sculpt designed to reflect the muscular build of the athletes.

The Barbie doll will be available for purchase in 2026.

Rugby stars Ellie Kildunne, Portia Woodman-Wickliffe, and Nassira Konde will also have Barbies made in their likeness.
