SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois lawmakers are returning to Springfield on Tuesday for the fall veto session, where they will address major unresolved legislation from the spring.

The session is scheduled for three days this week and three more days later this month, providing lawmakers with a total of six days to tackle pending issues.

House Speaker Chris Welch has indicated that his team is researching ways to counter ongoing federal immigration enforcement, which could include legislation to prevent ICE agents from detaining people inside hospitals and outside courthouses.

Republican strategists have expressed skepticism about the likelihood of Democrats passing significant new sanctuary state laws during this session.
