On Monday, Oct. 13 at around 4:11 p.m., the semi hit a Dodge van on Interstate 85 in Jackson County, the Georgia Department of Public Safety confirmed in a statement shared with PEOPLE. According to the statement, the semi was "following too closely" behind the van at the time of the incident.
