The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)-owned UPI app Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) has seen a tripling of volume of transactions in the first nine months of 2025, the company said here on Tuesday.

BHIM clocked 119.8 million transactions in September 2025, up steadily from 38.9 million in January. The average monthly transactions stood at 25 million earlier in 2024.

“BHIM as a payments app is not new. We launched in 2017 but were experimenting with features for a long time. We did not pitch it as a competitive app. But over the last one year, we have felt the need for a Bharat app for payments,” Lalitha Nataraj, MD & CEO, NBSL, said. “We realise that only a ‘Made in India’ sentiment is not enough. It is just a starting point.,” she added.
