Kerala Education Minister V. Sivankutty

Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty on Tuesday ordered St. Rita Public School in Kochi to allow the Muslim student to continue her studies wearing a hijab. The minister said that no school is allowed to violate constitutional rights.

Sivankutty has also asked the school principal and management to submit a full report by 11 am on Wednesday. He instructed that the mental distress caused to the student and her parents should be immediately addressed.

An investigation by the Deputy Director of Education, Ernakulam, found that not allowing the student into the classroom for wearing a hijab was a serious negligence and a violation of the Right to Education Act.
