OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan — A young woman is facing a murder charge in the death of her mom, the Oakland County Prosecutor says.

Riley Donaldson, 22, is charged with first-degree murder in the October 5 death of Ada Mae Simmons-Jones.

A suspect shot Simmons-Jones multiple times. Witnesses reported seeing a car belonging to Donaldson leaving the scene shortly after the shooting.

Donaldson then fled to Ohio, where she lives, the Oakland County Prosecutor said. She returned to Michigan a few hours later.

“Ada Mae Simmons-Jones’ death is a tragedy,” said Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “While nothing can bring her back or repair the loss for her loved ones, we will fight to get her justice.”

If Donaldson is found guilty, first-degree murder is punishable by life in prison without parole.
