Four construction workers are in hospital with critical injuries and several others are being treated on scene after an explosion on Tuesday morning in North York.

Firefighters responded to a condominium under construction at 68 Esther Shiner Blvd . around 9:20 a.m. after reports of a natural gas explosion.

In total seven people have been taken to hospital. Four were sent to a trauma centre with critical injuries, according to paramedics, while three others were hospitalized with minor injuries.

All of those injured are workers at the site, Toronto fire told reporters on scene Tuesday morning. The explosion occurred in the penthouse mechanical room, according to Toronto fire.

The Ministry of Labour will lead the investigation and Toronto fire marshalls will assist.
