WASHINGTON — California native Edwin Castro, who won a record $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot in 2022, is buying up lots that were ravaged by the Los Angeles-area fires earlier this year.
Castro has spent around $10 million buying up 15 properties in his hometown of Altadena, where he purchased his lucky winning ticket. The 33-year-old plans to rebuild homes in the devastated community.
"This is for a family that wants to move in, " Castro told the Wall Street Journal during a recent walk-through of one of the fire-torn neighborhoods. "Those are the people that need to be looked out for right now."
