The Gadsden Elementary School District has managed to offset the impact of a funding cut to a grant that supports much of the instruction at San Luis Preschool.

Starting in December, the school was expected to lose nearly half a million dollars in funding due to the loss of a state grant. However, GESD announced that services at the preschool will remain fully intact for the rest of the school year, thanks to internal funds identified within the district.

District Superintendent Lizette Esparza explained that after nearly three months of work with the GESD Governing Board, they were able to identify funds from several departments that could be redirected to sustain preschool services as they are through May.

With about $510,000, the district will prevent the closure of seven classrooms–
