BOILING SPRINGS, S.C. (WSPA) -- The SC State Board of Education has suspended the educator certificate of Micah Lanford, a former Boiling Springs High School teacher facing 40 child sex charges.

The board considered this matter on October 7, following Lanford's arrest on eight counts of sexual battery with a student aged 16-17. Further into the investigation, the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office uncovered more information that brought additional charges to the suspect, reaching a total of 40.

The South Carolina Department of Education requested the suspension due to the serious nature of the allegations, which they believe may pose a threat to the health, safety and welfare of students under Lanford's instruction.
