Dallas Stars goaltender Casey DeSmith (1) stops a shot by Minnesota Wild left wing Kirill Kaprizov (97) during an NHL game at Grand Casino Arena in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

The Minnesota Wild (2-1-0) face the Dallas Stars (2-0-0) Tuesday in a Central Division clash. Puck drop from American Airlines Center in Dallas, is set for 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's NHL odds around the Wild vs. Stars odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

2024-25 season series: Tied 2-2

Minnesota comes to town to face the team that left its locale a number of years ago. The Wild are on a back-to-back, but backup G Jesper Wallstedt was between the pipes in the 4-3 shootout win over the visiting LA Kings Monday. He finished with 31 saves against 34 shots for the Wild, who cashed as -119 favorites with the Over (5.5) hitting in the final minute of regulation. D Jared Spurgeon, LW Kirill Kaprizov and LW Matt Boldy scored first-period, power-play goals but Minnesota let the lead slip away as the Kings tied it with 46 seconds to go. The Wild did manage to pick up the extra point in the shootout. They are operating without RW Mats Zuccarello (lower body), which challenges their depth. He's on IR following last season's 19-goal, 54-point showing.

The Stars also prevailed in a shootout last time out, which was a 5-4 winner at the Colorado Avalanche Saturday. Dallas cashed as a +126 favorite with the Over (6) coming through when the Avs tied it 3-3 just 34 seconds into the third period. LW Jason Robertson and C Wyatt Johnston each scored their second goal of the season in the victory. The Stars picked up wins in Winnipeg and Colorado in a rigid start to the season and return to their beds for their home opener Tuesday.

  • Moneyline (ML): Wild +155 (bet $100 to win $155) | Stars -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Wild +1.5 (-150) | Stars -1.5 (+125)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Wild at Stars projected goalies

Filip Gustavsson (1-1-0, 3.03 GAA, .895 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Jake Oettinger (2-0-0, 3.84 GAA, .875 SV%)

Gustavsson has been feast or famine thus far, shutting out the host St. Louis Blues in Thursday's opener and stopping 26 shots. He was dumbfounded in a 7-4 home loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday, stopping 25 of 31. Gustavsson was 2-2-0 with a 2.02 GAA and .934 SV% against Dallas last season.

Otter should be in for this one. He played Thursday and Saturday, but with this being the home opener, the Stars will probably run him out there. He stopped 21 of 25 in the Winnipeg victory and 35 of 39 against Colorado. He was 2-0-2 with a 1.74 GAA and .939 SV% against Minnesota last season.

Wild at Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 3, Wild 2

Moneyline

PASS. The Stars (-190) are heavy favorites because the Wild (+155) are on a back-to-back, but it's not that big of a difference. These teams are among the handful that will contend for the division crown.

Puck line/Against the spread

Give me the WILD +1.5 (-150) at a fair price. Three of the 4 head-to-head games last season ended within a goal, and 2 needed overtime. Minnesota will have its starting netminder, and there's a decent chance they could take this game.

Over/Under

The Under is 7-2-1 in the last 10 meetings in the series, and this number cashed in all 4 meetings last season.

I like UNDER 6 (-110).
