State Republican leadership, citing the wishes of President Donald Trump, said they will introduce legislation next week that would redraw the state's congressional map to provide the GOP with an 11th seat.
The current gerrymandered congressional map gives Republicans a 10-4 advantage, with the 1st District seat, held by Democrat Dan Davis, considered the only competitive one.
The authority to draw and approve congressional and state legislative maps rests solely with the General Assembly.
The legislature's adjournment resolution for the 2025 session includes the ability to consider bills affecting changes to election laws affecting congressional and legislative districts. A third extra session is scheduled for Oct. 20-21.
