A Madison County elementary school teacher was arrested Oct. 13 after being accused of sexually abusing a student during the 2018-2019 school year.

According to an arrest citation, Charles Hamilton, 40, of Richmond, was charged with sexually abusing a victim under the age of 12. He is currently being held at the Madison County Detention Center.

According to court records, the Kentucky Department of Community Based Services initially received a report of a child who had possibly been sexually assaulted Sept. 8. During a Sept. 17 interview, the girl claimed Hamilton touched her inappropriately over her clothing after she asked him to accompany her to a bathroom during a power outage at Boonesborough Elementary School while she was a student there.
