In recent months, there has been an increase in reported active shooter incidents in cities and neighborhoods across the country.

Louisiana State Police want to ensure the public they, and other emergency response, are committed to ensuring everyone is prepared to respond to such a situation, if there ever is one.

LSP Trooper Eddie Thomas talked with KTBS 3's Nate Fluharty Tuesday morning on this topic and gave three important tips:

Have situational awareness: Remain vigilant and attentive to your surroundings. Avoid distractions such as your phone or other tasks.

Exit routes: Familiarize yourself with all exits in your school or business, including alternate exits.
