Socceroos coach Tony Popovic has challenged new faces to "surprise" him and put themselves into contention for next year's World Cup squad.

With Australia already qualified, Popovic has room to cast his net wide and keep his regulars on their toes ahead of the finals in North America.

Goalkeeper Paul Izzo was selected ahead of skipper Maty Ryan for Saturday's 1-0 win over Canada, and was man of the match, while defender Jacob Italiano earned a debut.

Popovic wants more of those moments in Wednesday's friendly against the United States at Colorado's Dick's Sporting Goods Stadium and beyond.

"The World Cup is a very easy motivation for anyone," Popovic said.
