Durgapur Rape Case: Friend of Victim Arrested

In a significant development in the Durgapur rape case, police have arrested a friend of the medical student who was allegedly raped near a private medical college in West Bengal. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to six.

The arrest occurred on Tuesday evening after the friend, a resident of Malda, provided incoherent responses during questioning. He had accompanied the victim when she left the college campus to get food on the evening of the incident. CCTV footage captured them leaving together at approximately 7:58 pm. The footage later showed the friend returning alone to the campus at 8:42 pm, and both were seen entering the campus again around 9:29 pm.

The victim's father had previously expressed concerns about the friend's involvement, stating, "I am sure that her friend definitely has some kind of involvement in the crime. I think this could be pre-planned." The victim, a second-year student from Jaleswar, Odisha, was allegedly raped outside the college grounds on October 10. Five other individuals had been arrested earlier in connection with the case, as investigations continue to unfold.
