OSCODA – Members of the Oscoda Township Planning Commission, during their meeting on Oct. 6, reviewed seven zoning ordinances of Public Act (PA) 233 of 2023, which took effect on Nov. 29, 2024.
According to the state of Michigan website, PA 233 establishes a at the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC), which gives the MPSC the ability to preempt local control and allows developers to bypass local authorities if a town does not have a zoning ordinance for renewable energy and energy storage projects, or if local authorities deny a developer’s project.
PA 233 also gives the MPSC the final decision-making authority, for projects that have statewide significance. The law covers solar facilities with a nameplate capacity of 50 megawatts (MW) or more, wind facilities of 100 MW or more and
