ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCSC) — Orangeburg is kicking off its first open discussion series to help residents understand how their tax dollars and utility payments are allocated by local government.
The first session, titled “Money Matters,” takes place Tuesday evening at Stevenson Auditorium. City officials will break down how utility bills and property taxes are calculated as well as how those funds are distributed between the city and the county.
Councilmembers said the idea for the series came after realizing that many residents were receiving conflicting information about how city finances work. They hope the chats will provide transparency and build trust between the city and the community.
