EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — Township officials are set to vote Wednesday to designate the site of a former barbecue business an area in need of redevelopment, which could pave the way for a new marina on land between Somers Point and Longport.

If approved, the vote would direct township planners to prepare a redevelopment plan for the land at 135 Longport Blvd., the site of the former Back Bay BBQ, which closed last year and was sold for $1.7 million by Dagit Brothers Holding Co. to Charter Tech Annex LLC.

The plan would not involve taking land via eminent domain.

Additional state and local approvals would be needed before any construction begins at the site.
