CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

So far this year in the city of Charlotte, data shows intimate partner homicides are down significantly compared to last year.

Advocates hope a brand new center will help drop the numbers even more.

The Umbrella Center is a one-stop shop for victims of domestic violence and their families, and will offer everything from legal help to therapy and even law enforcement assistance.

Audra Toussaint, a survivor of domestic violence, said the center is going to make it easier for victims to get the help they need in less time.

Toussaint said she endured varying levels of abuse for years.

“Psychological threats, he stalked me, harassed me. He physically assaulted me a couple of times,” Toussaint said.
