KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - Attorneys representing the family of Charles Adair sent a letter to the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, demanding it settle with them after his death.
On July 5, 2025, 50-year-old Charles Adair died while in custody at the Wyandotte County Jail. His death was later ruled a homicide after the State of Kansas Coroner’s Report stated Adair had an altercation with officers. It then said one officer kneeled on his back, and he went unresponsive.
The report states his cause of death was due to complications of mechanical asphyxia.
Richard Fatherley, 32, faces an unintentional but reckless second-degree murder charge. He is on unpaid administrative leave from his job as a detention center officer with the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Off
