A Texas boy is alive thanks to quick thinking from his big sister.

Police say the two were jumping on a trampoline when he started choking.

Video shows the girl, Leah, performing abdominal thrusts. Police said she learned the choking rescue technique from a babysitting guide and her mom.

According to the National Library of Medicine , choking may block a person's airway, and brain damage can happen in as little as 4 to 6 minutes if oxygen can't flow to the brain.

Police said Leah proves age is no barrier to being a hero.

CNN contributed to this report.
