A passport from the United States is no longer ranked in the top 10 most powerful in the world, according to the Henley Passport Index. The index ranks 199 global passports based on how many countries a person carrying that passport can visit.
The index gets all its data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA), the trade association that represents almost all major airlines and over 80% of overall global air traffic.
According to the index, a person carrying a U.S. passport is able to visit 180 countries without obtaining a visa.
The #1 most powerful passport according to the index is Singapore, which grants access into 197 countries. South Korea sits at #2 with 190, and Japan at #3 with 189.
