DENVER (KDVR) — On Tuesday morning, the law firm of NEWMAN | MCNULTY, LLC, filed a lawsuit on behalf of Justin McNeil, who claims he was assaulted by two deputies while under their care in the Montrose County Jail.

The lawsuit names the defendants as Montrose County Sheriff's Office deputies Michael Taylor and Daniel Lewis.

The plaintiff states that on July 3, 2024, McNeil was meant to be escorted to an attorney visit at the Montrose County Jail. He had ankle injuries and gunshot wounds in his lower back and pelvic area, according to the law firm.

McNeil believed he could not make it to the visit without a wheelchair and asked the deputies for one.

The lawsuit states that Taylor responded to McNeil, saying, "If you are such a tough guy, so gangster, why don't you just walk?"
