YONKERS, N.Y. (PIX11) — One of the four remaining applicants for a New York State casino license has withdrawn its name from the running.

MGM's Empire Casino in Yonkers withdrew its commercial casino license application on Tuesday after its Community Advisory Committee passed it to the next phase of approval in September.

While the Yonkers Casino already has video lottery games, the commercial license would allow MGM to expand to full live and table games. MGM Yonkers claimed the "clustered" location of the remaining applicants is the reason for the withdrawal.

In a statement, MGM Yonkers said the "competitive and economic assumptions" it once had in mapping out financial returns by expanding its complex have "shifted."
